Over the years, many people have asked me to help rehome their personal puppies—dogs they can no longer keep. Out of kindness, I’ve taken time to photograph them, create listings, speak with potential adopters, and advocate for these puppies as if they were already part of our rescue.
However, far too often, after I’ve invested that time and energy, the owners change their minds—usually after adopters have already been contacted and excited about meeting the dog. This creates confusion, wastes valuable time, and ultimately reflects poorly on our organization, not on the owners who backed out.
For this reason, I need to set a clear boundary moving forward:
Pokie & Friends Rescue will no longer accept owner-surrender puppies or help rehome dogs that already have an owner.
Our focus will remain on rescuing dogs who truly have nowhere else to go—dogs from the streets, dangerous situations, or without a family to advocate for them.
Unfortunately, this has happened many times—not just once or twice—and although I’ve been patient and understanding, I can no longer allow it to affect our mission or the integrity of our rescue.
