The story of Pokie & Friends by Dilan Ramierez

Many years ago, I was facing some of the hardest moments of my life. I had fallen into depression, and every day felt heavy. Then Pokie—our beloved mascot and the heart of our rescue—walked into my world. She didn’t just brighten my life; she transformed it.

Pokie gave me purpose when I had lost mine. Her presence brought comfort, joy, and the hope I didn’t know I was missing.

In gratitude for the way Pokie saved me, I began saving others. What started as rescuing a few dogs in crisis became a calling—a mission to honor Pokie by helping animals who desperately needed someone to fight for them. Every dog I rescue is a way of saying “thank you” to the angel who rescued me first.

I truly believe dogs are angels on earth—sent to heal us, guide us, and remind us of the goodness still left in the world. They have a way of transforming pain into peace and turning tears into joy. They walk into our lives at the exact moment we need them, and they change our story forever.

Our rescue has become known for stepping in when cases are severe, complicated, or heartbreaking. We take on the dogs that others overlook—the scared, the injured, the abandoned, the forgotten. These are the dogs who need the most love, the most patience, and the most protection. And these are the dogs who reflect our purpose the most deeply.

Pokie & Friends Rescue isn’t just a rescue—it’s a promise: 

A promise to show up when we are able. 
A promise to fight for the voiceless as much as we can. 
A promise to give animals a chance at the life they deserve.

And it all started with one dog who saved my life—and inspired me to save theirs.
